Abu Dhabi
Luxury holidays to Abu Dhabi aren't always the first destination that comes to mind, as it's not as widely known. After my recent visit, part of me wants to keep it that way and avoid the crowds—but then again, I wouldn't want to be selfish... The BEST trip we have had!
Last week, we travelled to discover what the Capital Emirate has to offer. I took my husband and 4 children with us and we flew with Etihad.
Abu Dhabi is pretty different to Dubai. The 200 or so islands are all natural, one of which, Saadiyat Island, is due to become a cultural hub, with The Louvre and Guggenheim planned for it. What's more, the beach on Saadiyat Island is eight kilometres long, and the best you'll find in Abu Dhabi.
In town, the huge Sheikh Zayed mosque houses 40,000 worshipers and boasts impressive Swarovski crystal chandeliers.
What's there to do in Abu Dhabi?

Warner Bros World
For superhero lovers, thrill-seekers, and the big kids at heart, there’s so much nostalgia packed into one place! My kids and I absolutely loved it here.
For movie and cartoon lovers and families, Warner Bros. World ™️ is the place where the magic comes to life. This indoor theme park brings iconic Warner Bros. characters to the stage, including Batman, Superman, Scooby-Doo, and The Flintstones. With six immersive zones, you can enter Gotham City, journey through Cartoon Junction, or go on a fun-filled adventure with the Justice League.
Sea World
This one was a bit different for me. While I enjoyed the rollercoasters and the rides for the kids, I struggled to get my head around the dolphins. Although they clearly had plenty of space and were well cared for, it still left me feeling a bit uneasy.
Water World
If you're an adrenaline junkie or a big kid, this is the place to be on a warm day! There’s plenty of shelter and sunbeds, and you can even rent cabanas with a safe, fridge, and towels from the resort center. Definitely a must-visit (but maybe not during a sandstorm)!
Yas Waterworld is the perfect escape for families and water lovers. This water park is packed with exciting slides, wave pools, lazy rivers, and even a unique pearl diving experience that pays homage to the UAE’s heritage. Whether you’re zipping down the Jebel Drop or enjoying a slow float through the lazy river, the park offers both high-energy thrills and calm retreats.
Etihad Arena
Yas Island’s Etihad Arena is a state-of-the-art venue that brings top-tier entertainment right to the heart of the island. Hosting a variety of events, from concerts and sporting events to comedy shows and large-scale exhibitions, Etihad Arena is one of the most sought-after places for live entertainment in Abu Dhabi.
Yas Beach
After all the excitement, a visit to Yas Beach is the perfect way to unwind. This pristine stretch of coastline offers stunning views of the Arabian Gulf and a laid-back atmosphere for those who want to relax by the water. With soft sand, crystal-clear water, and a range of water sports to enjoy, Yas Beach provides the ideal setting for both relaxation and adventure. You can lounge on the beach, indulge in beachside dining, or take part in water activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding.
Yas Marina
Yas Marina offers a picturesque waterfront experience that’s perfect for those who love the sea. This stunning marina is home to luxury yachts, fine dining restaurants, and stylish cafes, making it a perfect place for a leisurely stroll or a sunset dinner. Whether you’re taking a boat tour around Yas Island or simply soaking in the views of the pristine marina, this area has a special charm.
Formula 1 Circuit
On certain days of the week you can cycle around the track and also drive around it too - The Yas Express goes over the track and its a real “pinch-me” moment every time.
Food & Drink
I was unsure about what the food would be like in Abu Dhabi and I can safely say it is the BEST food we have had when travelling (so far) Food is clearly important in Abu Dhabi - we ate ridiculously well throughout our stay, the hotel has sushi, salads, so much choice for the children! Ice creams, sweets and chocolates from the coffee shop - 10/10 for food from us. There is so much choice in the hotels, by the Arena and down by the Marina, they really have thought of everything!
Abu Dhabi is the perfect place for winter sun - the temperature rarely was perfect for us, round 28 degrees mot days, and it's only a seven hour flight from London. So our only question is: what are you waiting for?
